WTN: Straccali Chianti 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Nov 15, 2006 6:34 pm

From Rocca Delle Macie.

For a $10.25 (Canadian) wine, this isn't half bad.

Nice, cherry-red color in the glass.

Medium-weight, earthy, tart acidity, sour cherries, smoke, leather, good acidity toward the end, along with a not-altogether-unpleasant dirty bite, slight effervecent tingle on the tongue.

Very tart, mouthwatering finish.

Certainly not the best wine in the world, but for the price....

Haven't had this wine for at least a couple of years, but always thought it was a good value. As you mention, not a world-beater, but enjoyable.
Thanks for the reminder to re-visit this.

Sounds very "interesting"

I have to confess that like another poster (Otto, I believe) I'm not sure I "understand" Chianti. Some IU've had sound like this wine-very tart, higher acidity, bright fruit. Others have darker, smoother, more leather and tobacco character. Wierd-just like every other grape variety, I guess. :o
