That does look good. I really like the red paint job.

Yeah, that red is a pretty radical departure for us, but paint is easily changed. i was so sick of all the yellow in this house, I was willing to go along with almost any other color scheme.

Looks like my good kitchen karma has expired! :(

I had anticipated that today would mark the completion of the project, however the tile guy for the back splash has not shown up for the last two days. His back hurts. Well, at least he called. If he doesn't show up tomorrow, I'll be asking the contractor to assign another sub.

Well, even this teeny tiny taste of what the rest of us know so well hardly puts a dent in what has otherwise been an amazing success. My husband hates you. :)

The kitchen progress has ground to a halt. The back splash guy was KO'd all last week with a bad back. He calls today and says he'll be here around 2PM...a sympathy visit I guess. I politely, but firmly, told him we were not going to have our kitchen and lives disrupted for an infinite series of 2 hr. work days for a relatively small project. Start tomorrow at 8AM, put in full days, or I'll have the "general" contractor find someone who wants the work. He promised to arrive at 8am tomorrow...we'll see.

As mentioned earlier, at least he calls, but ......!

Hmmm...historically, tile guys are usually at the reliable end of the scale. Painters, for some reason, are the worst (or at least, that's how it goes in my area.)

We had great painters.

The guys who made us totally nuts were the paint-strippers. The job is awful: stinky, vaguely dangerous, messy, tedious. But either you're doing it or you're not. These guys weren't too sure. It is the one and only time I did not tip the workmen.

The tile guy arrived on Wednesday and he is driving me bat shit crazy with his cell calls. he answers every friggin call and spends as much as 15-30 minutes on some of them. The first night he worked until 9PM and he seemed put out when I told him he needed to finish by 6 at the latest and to help him meet that objective, it would be helpful if he minimized the phone calls. Also, mentioned if his calls were more important than this tile job, I'd be happy to pay him for the work done and find someone else to finish the job. He pouted around for the rest of the day like a 9 year old!

Wow, I love your grounds...actually my dream property. Green lawns, white fences, and a curious horse(s) looking on.
Isn't it grand having a project go smoothly?

When we did our kitchen remodel, and most recently both bathrooms, everything went smooth. Kitchen was a piece of cake. The contractor was here and on top of every thing. At 5 pm each day, he went through all the days work with us and what was expected for tomorrow. I can't recall one glitch, and if there was, it was so minor that my memory has deleted it. The bathrooms were smooth too. I think we had to wait on our shower grab bars, because the decorator forgot to order them, but it was not anything crucial. We hold back 10% at the end of every job, to make sure everything is working and looking OK.

Just finished doing a entire house re- roof, held back the 10% until the City did final inspection.
Frankly, Gene and I are very fussy about workmanship. I stop them dead in their tracks if something is not right. My standard comment is, "you have some of my money already, did you find a flaw with it?" The answer is always NO. So then I say, "OK, I do not want a flaw in your work". Works so well! Having the right contractor is a big plus, about 90 % I would say.

Aside from a couple of small trim items and decorative switch plates the kitchen remodel is completed. Now comes the task of moving stuff into place from temporary storage in spare bedrooms, basement and garage.

Hearty congrats, 'Winger, and doesn't it look good? I hope that you're pleased with the outcome. Those countertops look fantastic to me.
