No Recanati Special Reserve Red for 2010

by Gabriel Geller » Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:40 pm

I was informed today that there will be no 2010 vintage for the Recanati Special Reserve red blend as the grapes were not up to the requested quality for producing the blend. Looks like another sign that the new winemaking team have a very different philosophy than their predecessors as it's the first time in a decade that they decide not to make the RSR.

While 2010 was by far not the best vintage in Israel, Recanati still have managed to produce some fantastic wines such as the Mediterranean series and the Wild Reserve Carignan but since Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the main varieties in the RSR, these weren't apparently good enough. I guess we'll just have to stick longer with the previous vintages...

Best,

GG

Maybe someone will correct me, but I vaguely recall there was no 2002 RSR.

Or load up on the Recanati Reserve Cab which will likely benefit from better than usual grapes that would have otherwise gone into the RSR...

Yossie, I hope to taste the Res Cab next week at the festival, looking forward!

Isaac, I'm not sure but I think you might be right. Yossie do you have a clue? Was there a 2002 RSR? Gotta check in Rogov's books tomorrow couldn't find any TN online.

Indeed there was no 2002 vintage. By the way, the scores for the entire horizontal is here by rogov:

Gabriel,

I vaguely remember one year where because of no RSR, the highest quality grapes went into the reserve line --- just as Yossie suggests.

Ah, thank you David. At my age, ...

I'll leave it at that.
