2010 Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia.

My third and last bottle. 65% Garnacha and 35 % Tempranillo. 14% alc, $22 Cdn.

Nice depth of color here, light to medium purple rim. Some alcohol on the nose initially, blueberry and blackcurrant.
Very nice entry, ripe fruit, good length, soft tannins. Plum and raspberry prominent rounded style and polished although fellow taster thought "tad modern and carbonic maceration". Went very well with chicken breast Mediterranean crusted. I have always loved the label!

That much Garnacha is allowed by DOCa rules, Bob? I wasn't aware of that.

Sounds the sort of Rioja I might like, Bob. I guess that 2010 is too young to be "Crianza" (2 years ageing, of which 1 in wood, required before release) so it may be "Joven", which doesn't have to see wood; your TN makes no mention of woody notes. Was there a mention on the label of "Joven" or anything else giving hints about the ageing?

Garnacha is more prominent in the hotter Rioja Baja (although losing ground to Tempranillo), and Palacios Remondo is noted as a proponent of that grape.
La Vendimia is supposed to be a easy drinking cuvee that only sees a short time in oak - seems like it might be classified as a Joven.

Seems you are correct Mark, it is 50/50. My mistake, I checked that new Rioja book
