WTN: Dinner with friends (Leitz, Dashe, Loring)

by David M. Bueker » Sun Nov 25, 2012 10:35 am

Visited with friends who we had not seen since our combined vacation in September. Lots of photos to share, and memories of our trip. We also ate and drank!

2010 Leitz Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spatlese
Sweet, but with a bracing acidity, a deep minerality and a long, fruit infused finish. Year in and year out this is the most consistently delicious Spatlese in Germany. Yes, heresy I know (my Donnhoff geek card is in jeopardy), but I think it's true.

2006 Dashe Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)
Good, basic Cabernet. Cassis and black cherry fruit. Soft tannins. Not complicated, but quite drinkable.

2011 Loring Wine Company Chardonnay Durell Vineyard
Focused. Bright. I only had a few small sips, but this was not as rich or heavy as I was expecting it to be. There was certainly oak influence to spare, but it was supported by ripe fruit.

Like Dashe! Given how many terrible fruit and oak bombs there are out there at outrageous prices, I will take pleasant and drinkable!

Nice lineup, but for a second reading title I thought you had dinner with Brian L. Mike D, and Johannes L!

Well I have had dinner with Brian and Johannes (not at the same time), but never Mike D.
