Jon,

The whites are through the door and in the glass relatively quickly. We drink lots of Chardonnay (Macon Village), Riesling (Trimbach) and Muscadet. I buy it in 2-3 bottle quantities and we drink it before buying more. For some reason we rarely drink cheaper (<$25 reds) - I don't know why.

The whites we do cellar are limited to burgs, Champagnes, Sauternes and some Tokai. The reds in the cellar run the gamut from Tahbilk to Oregon Pinot. We are very unfocused collectors.

It does strike me as odd that I prefer red wine but I consume much more white wine. Maybe some wine therapy is in order. :)

94 percent red
5 percent white
1 percent sparkling

... largely because my wife doesn't drink whites. If it was up to my preferences alone, it would probably be about 80-20. So either way, we're still pretty much on the Commie side of things.

That pretty much reflects my drinking pattern too.

Wow, you're the only one who has as much white as I do. 61% white, 30% red, a handful of sparkling, rose, and fortified. I drink it almost exclusively with food, and we just don't eat enough red meat, tomato sauce, and other red-wine-friendly foods to justify more red. My consumption is a little more balanced.

I'll report separately for my on-site and off-site storage.

off-site:

Red - 52%
White - 41%
Bubbly - 7%

on-site:

Red - 65%
White - 28%
Bubbly - 7%

My drinking habits have me drinking 50% reds and the other 50% split amongst whites, bubbly and rose. The reason for a larger percentage of whites off-site than on-site is that it reflects the white dessert wines I'm aging. Also, my on-site wine storage unit has two temperature zones, the zone I keep at 50 degrees Fahrenheit has the capacity for 50 bottles, and the other zone, that is set to 57 degrees, stores 94 bottles.

Red (dry, sweet, fortified): 76.5%

White (dry, off-dry, sweet, fortified): 15.7%

Rose (dry): 1.9%

Sparkling (white and rose): 6 %

That's about my numbers I'm guessing if the white includes sparkling. But we probably drink close to 50% white--we just buy quite a few that never get into inventory.

I just added things up, and they were almost exactly what my initial guess was:

79% red
20% white
0.6% sparkling
0.5% rose

The proportion of red is large because most of my wine is for long-term cellaring, and I keep reds much longer than whites.
