27 course tour de force in California

by David Raccah » Sun Dec 02, 2012 12:49 am

As promised - I finally posted my 10K+ word article on one of the most unique events I have ever had the chance to be part of. The event was put on my Jonathan Hajdu and Yiztchok Bernstein. The event was insane - 27 courses - and that was cut down and squeezed together! INSANE The number of bottles of wine - equally insane!

Sorry - but this may well be the craziest kosher dinner you ever read about - or at least that I was part of.

David,

You're tempting me to try things I haven't in the past

But seriously, how have you packed in one evening what would take me about a month.

Thanks for sharing the detailed descriptions of the food and the wine, and I'll forgive you withholding the details of the wine that has not been released

I was pouring wine at a Chanukka fair the whole day and reading thru Dave's write-up while waiting for drinkers/customers and couldn't hold myself from laughing out loud (and salivating) at Dave's madness, the other people and vendors probably thought I was some kind of lunatic...

Sounds like a truly epic event and one that [nearly] makes up for the otherwise abysmal kosher culinary situation out there... :-). How do I score an invite for the next event like this - easily worth flying out for from the East Coast in my opinion!

For those who asked about how to attend this type of event, please note that, as stated in David's writeup, this event was an auction item at the annual dinner of Beth Jacob Congregation in Oakland. I think the dinner was set for ten or twelve people, and those attending were invited by the winning bidder. So you have to be a friend of someone with a lot of available cash to be present at this type of event (as is often the case with such events).

Full disclosure: I belong to this synagogue, but my friends there aren't in this category any more than I am.
