WTN: 2011 Forlorn Hope "Nacre" Semillon

by Brian K Miller » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:05 pm

Yountville grape source. Made in Solano County!

Fine, rich lemony flavors on the palate and nose. What really stood out, though, is the savory, almost meaty flavor element underneath the fruit...and the mouth watering acidity. Only 77 cases made.

I really enjoyed this one, and I am not really very familiar with Semillon.

I also have a bottle of Matthew Rorick's Petit Verdot (Gascony Cadet) that I am now looking forward to trying. Tom, or any other fans of Mr. Rorick...have you tried Gascony Cadets? It's a 2006, so I am assuming it is reasonably within its drinking window.

Yup....thought this was a pretty classic Semillon...lots of figgy elements...lots of mineral character.

I have, indeed, tried the '06 GasconyCadets PetiteVerdot. Big brash wine that'll go out another 10 yrs or so.

Matt's doing some really interesting stuff, I think.

Yes! Although I liked some of his earlier work at Elizabeth Spencer, I think these days I prefer his own label wines.

we are eating steak on Friday. Might be a good wine for this meal!

I have a good source! Back Room Wines in Downtown Napa carries many of Matt's wines.

I think Matt's work at ElizSpencer was focused on Cabernet....not a wine that moves me much.

BackRoomWines has some very interesting wines from their WebSite. I need to order some from them.

Just ordered from Matt his Verdelho '11 and MilAmores '09.

Matt's a really neat guy...one of my favorites in the biz.
