NYTimes: Varietal GrapeSeed Oils

by TomHill » Wed Jan 02, 2013 11:01 am

Just noticed an article in today's NYTimes on varietal grape seed oils:

I'm not gonna bite on this one. Years ago (by crackey), some company came out w/ a selection of varietal jellies. Bought the entire set and we tasted thru them. Couldn't tell a nickle's worth of difference. And, of course, the conversion to jelly managed to destroy any terroir the grapes may have once had.

I'd like to try to see if I could taste any differences (though grapeseed oil tends to be rather neutral). But is there really a market for French Columbard varietally labeled grapeseed oil? For all I know FC makes the greatest oil around, but from a marketing standpoint I'd think that would be last to sell.
