by TomHill » Tue Jan 08, 2013 1:15 pm

Just arrived last week annd have tried over the last few days:
1. Jaffurs Roussanne StolpmanVnyd/SBCnty (13.4%; SaH: 22 Brix, pH: 3.4; Clone: Davis 1; Bttld: April 21'12; 126 cs) 2011: Med.light gold color; very strong honeysuckle/Rouss light spicy/nutmeg/Fr.oak rather restrained/elegant/refined lovely nose; rather tart fairly rich/lush strong honeysuckle/floral/Rouss slight tangy/mineral/chalky light spicy/nutmeg/Fr.oak flavor; very long elegant/floral/honeysuckle/Rouss light spicy/mineral finish; plenty of pure honeysuckle/Rouss fruit but more restrained/elegant than previous ones; should age for 10 yrs & beyond. $27.00
2. Jaffurs GrenacheBlanc ThompsonVnyd/SBCnty (14.0%; Entav Clone 141; SaH: 23.0Brix, pH: 3.2; 13.9%; Bttld: April 21'12; 154 cs) 2011: Light gold color; strong floral/fragrant/spicy/GB slight chalky/mineral/perfumed talc/7Up quite attractive nose; rather tart/mineral/chalky/perfumed talc light floral/GB/carnations/apple blossom slight spicy/nutmeg flavor; long light pear/floral/GB/carnation/apple blossom light mineral/perfumed talc somewhat tight/restrained finish; seems a bit closed and needs some time to evolve; very pretty aromatics and nice/brisk structure. $27.00
A wee BP:
1. The Jaffurs Rhone Blancs in the past have been rather bigger/riper more in-your-face renditions of those grapes than these two 2011 versions. These are more restrained/elegant wines, yet show plenty of varietal fruit. I would not crack these again for at least 6 months and think they both need some time to really show their stuff.
