WTN: 2009 Merryvale Starmount Cabernet Sauvignon

by Ron DiLauro » Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:43 pm

Its been a while since I've been back online. I came across a Cabernet that I really enjoyed.

Merryvale's 2009 Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a super blend :
76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11 % Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec

It was bold, but the tannins were tame enough to enjoy, but you could taste some longer life in this wine. Some of the more complex Cabernet attributes were displayed in this wine. I could easily detect the cassis/current, blackberry, a hint of tobacco, a touch of chocolate. The initial taste was very enjoyable and this wine finished long and almost as smooth, round and big as it started.
A super Cab under $25

This is quite popular at the wine shop where I work, Ron. I always have trouble finding it because I look under either Merryvale or Starmount and it's always stocked under the one I'm not looking for. I'll have to talk to the overnight crew about this. :D
