Giovanni Manzone 'Le Gramolere' Barolo Riserva DOCG 2001

Opened on Saturday but finished on Sunday. Like so many bold Italian reds long decanting really brings forth the fruit and relaxes the tannic bite. Prune, dark fruit extract, tobacco, and leather, with persistent notes of vanilla and spices. It has a long finish with an almost sweet aftertaste. Nice garnet color.
RP and WS both scored this in the 92-94 range.
Paired very simply with good hard French cheese, dried fruit, olives and olive toast rubbed with garlic with a splash of evoo.
This wine is still available as I just traveled back to the shop today to rescue the last two in my area. Highly recommended.
Thanks,
Mike

Thank you for the tasting note. I have 3 of these still resting. When I tried the others in 04, 07, and 2010, they were still obviously tannic, but lacking in fruit. I'm encouraged by your tasting note and will revisit one soon.
