Michigan Wineries - worth visting?

by Sue Courtney » Tue Feb 26, 2013 4:32 pm

An article in the Boston Daily Herald alerted me to the Michigan Lake Shore Wine Trail
Worth a diversion to visit while we are there?

Sue - Most of the Michigan wineries are on the other side of the state, probably a 4 hour drive each way from MOCOOL. That being said, there are a few small Michigan wineries that bring their wares to MOCOOL.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

i didn't understand from your note that your visit would be related to mo cool. if it is, the lake michigan shore wineries are just over 3 hours from the detroit airport and the northwest wineries are just under 4 hours. the michigan state wine competition will be held aug. 6 and the results posted sometime the 7th on michiganwines.com that might give you an idea of which ones are worth visiting. if you are coming to Michigan another time, post closer to the time andd many of us will be glad to help. one of our newer wineries just won the international riesling challenge at the international eastern wine competition - Laurentide - but they are in the northwest.

Sue, I live in MI and taste and drink Michigan wines on a regular basis. I like a couple from SW area but really favor those from the NW area near Traverse City. Left Foot Charley, Chateau Grand Traverse and Bel Lago are personal favorites. We are currently building a house in Traverse City and hope to be moved in by late summer. MI growers that I can remember attending MoCool include; Larry Mawby, Sean O'Keefe (Ch Grand Traverse) and Jim Lester (Wyncroft).
Cheers, Gary

Which MI winery that goes to MOCOOL has pictures of airplanes on his labels?
Edit: I found it: Chateau Aeronautique Winery

Howie, That must be after I stopped going to MoCool and I have not tasted their wines.
