NV Bodegas Grant Jerez-Xérès-Sherry La Garrocha Amontillado

by Salil » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:29 pm

Certain NYC geeks have been repeatedly plying me with sherry off late (thank you Jay and Ross), and as a result I'm finding myself getting more and more into these wines, to the point that I just took delivery of a bunch of bottles from Chambers for drinking at home over the next few months.

This cost $15 (for a half bottle), and it's an astounding value. Lovely salted caramel and smoky aromas lead into a palate full of fresh citrus fruits combined with savoury toasted almond, butterscotch and briny notes; it may not be the most complex Amontillado but the sense of elegance and textural polish here make it remarkably appealing to drink, and it stands up remarkably well to some moderately spiced food. Fantastic.
