WTN: 2004 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

2004 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/9/2013)
I keep opening these 375s of the 2004, and they keep rewarding me. Last night's bottle was stuffed with black cherry and blackberry fruit, and supported by significant tannin that made its presence felt, but did not overwhelm the wine. There's still a bit of an oak signature, but it's a secondary player behind the ripe fruit. This was a delicious match with my burger.

As an aside, this was the first time since my little incident in 2010 that I truly believe I could have pegged this as Cabernet, even if served blind.

David, I have some of the 2004 Chateau Montelena non-estate Cabernet Sauvignon that I probably should open soon. I opened one bottle of the 2007 Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon in 2011 and although I enjoyed it, I will probably hold off on my two or three remaining bottles until the ten-year mark. Have you tried any C.S. from Larkmead?
