California winery Cakebread Cellars has apparently made a stake in Walla Walla with a new winery they're calling Mullan Road. The name honors one Captain Mullan who long ago led the team that built a wagon road from Fort Benton (Montana?) to Fort Walla Walla. They're sourcing grapes from the Seven Hills vineyard for a Bordeaux style blend (which one doofus news source referred to as "a new variety"--in the title of their article, no less).
I wonder if the winery's goal will be to be the highest or second highest priced Washington wine on the wine lists of restaurants who cater to expense report clients.
