WTN: 2001 Hexamer Kabinett - a real kabinett

2001 Hexamer Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Nahe (8/6/2013)
What a little gem this is. If forced to guess I would have said halbtrocken or feinherb, as the fruit is lively but the wine drinks dry. Tree fruit, flowers, minerals and a little bit of smoke all come together, with a balance that makes it a pleasure to drink on its own, while it also works exceedingly well with food. This is a fabulous kabinett that has continued to develop and improve for much longer than I thought it would based on prior bottles. It also has the elegance and lightness of true kabinett, which is a rare thing to find.
