2011 Flam Blanc: B+/** Delightfully aromatic nose reminiscent of a Gewurtz, with stone fruit and floral notes. The mouthfeel combines the richness of Chardonnay with the crispness of SB. Unfortunately, the wine is growing tired and on the palate, isn't as lively as it was last time I drank it, when I rated it A-. Drink up!
2009 City Winery Pinot Noir: B/* Decent light-bodied pinot but a bit on the thin side and lacking the liveliness I would've liked. On the positive side, it has great minerality (to use a term we've been arguing over), with a salinity reminiscent of seaweed.
2010 Four Gates Pinot Noir: C-/* Unlike most of the bottles I've had, this one wasn't refermented and didn't have the dissolved gas issues, so it was drinkable, but not very pleasant. Far too sweet with a medicinal quality. A very rare failure from what's easily my favorite winery.
2009 Recanati Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: C+/** Afflicted by the curse of '09--overripe, over-sweet and swimming with dates. Not nearly as bad as some of the others though.
I had much better luck with beers this Shabbos, with a few great brews.

I felt the same about the Flam Rose. I last tasted the Blanc at IFWE in NYC last February and adored it, I was going to pick up a few bottles but this gives me pause. Anybody have any idea why the wines would be burning out so quickly?

No alcohol this weekend. But, I sampled some grape juice for a change.
I was surprised seeing Kedem products here in Israel as if there were not enough local made grape juice (perhaps never looked for), so I got a bottle of
Kedem Sparkling Peach Grape Juice (K) - somewhat similar to various Bosca Verdi Sparkletini that are low in alcohol. This one is non-alcoholic, too sweet and lacking acidity to make it more balanced and refreshing. Bosca Verdi (kosher) sparklers are clear winners here. Although, I'm missing Louis Roederer, Brut, Premier NV that we've had for NY's eve. That was a real thing, Yarden BdB nervously smoking in the corner
Have a good 1!
