WTN: Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Blanc 2003

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Dec 18, 2006 2:59 pm

California.

Incredible mousse. I can't recall the last time I saw a sparkling wine "fizz up" the glass as quickly and last as long when poured.

Lemony, green apples and some grapefruit, nutty, very tart acidity but with some creaminess and body in the mouth. Very clean and refreshing.

A mouthwatering finish with some grapefruit rind.

Purchased at $26.95 Canadian.

This is pretty nice for a New World sparkler. My note is similar:

2003 Gloria Ferrer, Blanc de Blancs, Carneros, California, $24. Straw gold with a medium bead, this wine is underscored by green apple and pear fruit, with nuances of toast, cashews and lees; 86/87.
