WTN: another Retro Petite Sirah

by Patchen Markell » Tue Nov 21, 2017 8:34 am

Retro Cellars 2010 Howell Mountain Petite Sirah, Old Vines The second vintage of this wine we've tried, from the old Park Muscatine Vineyard. Compared to a 2009 tasted a year ago, this leans more toward blue fruit and flowers than toward meat and tar, but with similar concentration and liveliness. The midpalate is coiled up quite tightly, though it opens up a bit with decanting, and overall this gives the impression of needing more time than the previous vintage did at the same point in its life. But the elements are there and in balance, and even now it's not unpleasant to drink. Will wait 5 years before opening another 2010.
cheers, Patchen
