WTN: Curses! Foilled again!

by Jenise » Wed Apr 25, 2018 12:47 pm

2016 Jean Foillard Beaujolais Villages
Very dark, almost black, violet nose, very Fleurie-ish, silky on the palate, fruit is initially cassis but some watermelon candy (what were those hard candies that came in watermelon and green apple? THAT watermelon) and granite-like flavors develop in the second glass. Unexpected but as all things Foillard, delicious.

THOSE. I knew someone would know. Detested them, btw, so it's a feat of this wine that this additional flavor didn't put me off.

Another Jolly Rancher hater here. I also hate watermelon, so glad to avoid this wine.

I love watermelon in real fruit form but artificial watermelon flavor, a la Jolly Rancher or Jelly Bellies, is awful.

Thanks for the note. Sounds yummy to me.

The other candy I often get in wine, and enjoy, is Hot Tamales.
