Sunday Forum Chat today

by Robin Garr » Sun May 14, 2006 1:04 pm

Just a quick reminder about the usual Sunday gathering, just about exactly three hours from the time of this post at 4 p.m. US EDT, 1 p.m. Pacific, 2000 GMT and 22:00 in Western Europe. See you in The Den on the Netscape WineLovers Community!

FYI...I tried but could not get in. It kept rejecting my login ID. I even had a glass of Austrian wine in hand!

Awww, jeez! This is getting increasingly frustrating.

As background: It's not really practical (or a good idea) to host a chat application on our own server. I'm told that it's a security risk. In the past, I paid a quarterly fee out of my own pocket for a hosted Chatroom. It was fairly nominal, but it made it particularly irritating when the chat server was down or buggy, as it frequently was. When we moved the forum to Netscape/CompuServe, it looked good to me, because their chat system is much more robust. But the frickin authentifiction and login problems are making it a major irritant.

If anybody knows of a good, affordable chatroom host as a third alternative, I'd be happy to take a look at it.
