WTN: Who put Vouvray in my 2004 Nigl Gruner Veltliner

Wow! Clean slate in a cold mountain stream. Tight acidity over a steely mineral core with a hint of unripened grapefruit. Okay, it's not Vouvray, but it's sure got the rocks for it. So different from the Knoll, I'd think it a different grape. Nicely paired with grilled chicken breasts, creamy Parmesan noodles and stir-fried vegetables. Don't hold it long though - it's got an artificial cork.

Interesting. So when you think of rocks you think of Vouvray?

Muscadet or Austrian riesling would probably come first to my mind.. But, we all have our own automatic associations..

Good news...Nigl has gone to screwcap for at least some of the wines.

I've not had Muscadet and only GV from Austria, so Vouvray is the most minerally in my experience.

I was lucky to find the GV - it was tucked in with the German wines at the shop

Doug- this the Kremser Freiheit (sp/)? I got a couple of Privats stuck away, was assuming TCA was my only worry.

"Privat" certainly has no synthetic corks. Don't know, however, whether Martin will switch to screw for 2005.
