WTN: Loire, Loire, Loire

Drank some wines with my mother last week.

1995 Bernard Baudry Chinon "Cuvée Signature"
Heard this was drinking well so I opened it. But was underwhelmed in comparison to previous bottles. Seems to be thinning out and getting a bit sour for my tastes without enough complexity to keep me interested. It did pick up body with a bit of air, but not enough. Maybe the other bottles will be better.

2005 Foreau Vouvray Sec
This was full-on golden power in the mouth. Will be nice to see this in the future as it tames itself. But was a good experience now.

2005 Huet Le Haut Lieu Vouvray Sec
Crisper and lighter than the Foreau, this was a nice elegant wine. But perhaps starting to shut down? Didn't show very much of its personality, and I'm assuming it has plenty to show.

2 questions.

How did mom like the wines?

Would you buy more of the 05 Foreau sec? The Huet I have already, but the Foreau is harder to find for me.

Thanks.

I thought the '05 LHL sec had plenty of personality at release, bought more after first 375.

Hope my '05 Foreau demis are as good as your sec.

Her favorite was probably the Huet (I've taught her well, nice to see the younger generation contributing) just because of its focus and minerality. And it did show well, I was just being a bit critical because I assume it can show even more.

Why not.

I guess it depends on your buying strategy and your needs, but if you want more 2005 Vouvray sec, this seems like an excellent one to have, and should provide an interesting comparison going forward to the Huets.

That is what I did in 2002, bought some Huet and a little Foreau for comparison. Sounds like a good idea in 2005 also. I think most of the Chidaine wines from 05 I have are demisec and then some, but I love demisec Vouvray.

I've had this twice that I have notes on, last November and then July. The bottle two months ago showed more closed that the one in November, so I'm taking that as a sign to leave these alone for a while.
