WTN: Quinta de Cabriz Reserva 2003

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Sep 29, 2007 2:17 pm

DOC Dão.
From Dão Sul Sociedad Vitivinicola.

A blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinto Roriz.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Fresh-crushed berry fruit, chocolate and spices on the nose.

Quite rich and smooth, smoky, black and tarry, loads of very juicy black cherry, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, dark chocolate, tobacco, good acidity.

For the first glass or two, every mouthful was richer, more intense and more interesting than the previous.

A tangy finish.

A delicious and very flavourful wine.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian).

Yup, this is the third (I think) bottle we have had and they have all been this good. Gotta love the price as well.

It is getting more and more difficult to find really good wines in Ontario for the mid to high teen $s.

Great. I have a bottle of 1998 Rosemount Balmoral I have been meaning to open. I also picked up a bottle of South African Shiraz-Pinotage today!!

The regular Quinta de Cabriz ("Colheita Selection" or similar) is usually a very good deal at $7 or so.,
