Gary's shop is quite close to me and I buy a lot of wine there. But I must say, I can hardly watch those clips: he is extremely irritating. BTW, the '06 Wiemer Gewurz is a very nice wine and they have a good price on it.

Different strokes, I guess, and possibly a generation-gap issue. Gary has a huge, devoted following of "Vayniacs," and he's certainly done a better job than anyone in the world of wine - far, far more than Parker - to open up wine to the younger generation. I think that's worth a big round of applause, even if his style does seem OTT to us graying Boomers. ;)

Different strokes indeed :!:

I concur with Joe. I'm no boomer myself, and given my age, statistically I should probably like Gary's noisy style . . . but I don't.

I'm working on a videoblog myself and my style is very different from Gary's. When I try to do the high energy and excitement, I come across as Ric Flair's inbred cousin. Gary has a lot of talent, not only as a talented taster but as a TV personality as well. He would be successful as a dry, information only wine critic and he would kick Leno/O'Brien/Kimmel/Letterman butt as a late night TV host. Like you all agree "Different strokes" but Gary is the top of the mountain in many many ways.
