Here is another good entry level Alsace Riesling from 2015.

2015 Hauller & Fils Riesling - France, Alsace (12/9/2016)
For what appears to be a house Alsatian brand at a local supermarket, I was surprised how good this was. Medium bodied with fragrant white fruit and flowers, a hint of honey and a sprinkling of nutmeg combined with discreet but fresh acidity and some backbone. The overall effect leant towards the softly charming rather than towards tension but the balance was good and who can complain at €6? Good wine and excellent QPR.

Nice find Tim, your note here gave me impetus to buy a 2013 entry level 2013 Hans Lang from the Rheingau ($17).
Tell me, if you had tasted blind, would you have thought Alsace?

Yes, I might have guessed Alsace or a trocken from Pfalz.

Here's yet another Riesling. Since Germaine declared war on obvious RS in white wines as a pairing for fish and poultry, treats like this Kabinett are going to be very rare. I chose it for sole accompanied by a creamy shrimp sauce and sure enough the comments came, though she did concede that the wine was delicious in itself and might have been a good pairing for foie gras  .

2007 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/11/2016)
Delicious Kabinett with a loading of sugar which leaned towards Spätlese until cooled to about 10°C. Medium/light bodied, full of fragrance, white fruit and flowers with a sprinkling of spice and a dash of petrol, light minerals and lightly mouth-watering acidity and gentle backbone. Elegant and very good.

2007
Unusual vintage during which a hot April and record early flowering was followed by a very cool summer but then the grapes were ripened, after a suitably extended growing season, by a very fine autumn. A distinct shortage of Kabinett.

For those who are still thinking German Riesling, I found this comprehensive report whilst browsing around last night. 2013 in fact.

Stuart Pigott is a good writer and knows his German Rieslings quite well. Here are his thoughts on 2015.

Keeping it going...

2014 Wirsching Julius Echter Berg Riesling GG
Another good 2014 for me. Very lovely delicate elegant firm precise and lovely lovely lovely wine. I've heard some complain about the huge size of Wirsching, so it may not be the most artisanal operation, but am not sure I could tell with this bottle!

2015 Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Kabinett (#12) and Auslese (#5)
Both of these wines were tasty, juicy sweet and tangy with the brisk Saar-ness. The kabinett is more of a laser and the auslese is more of a broadly intense mineral tingle. All good fun, although not quite the same ecstatic joyous exuberance as from this summer in Germany. Perhaps that's just moving along the aging curve, or perhaps it's any number of other things. Either way, will be happy to follow some more bottles over time.
