I thought we were talking Frankenwine (starring Gene Wilder), so your assertion that you might have a case of the Clape surprised me......

David is correct: Eugen ($), not Egon ($$$$).

And just in time for the Crush email advertising the Egon Muller 2014 QbA at $45. Which somehow does not seem so stratospheric anymore! (triple digit kabinett has a bigger shock value)

Triple digit Kabinett? The 2013 (last offer I saw) was $65.

Triple digit? If I spent that much on a white wine, my choice would more likely be an Alsatian.

Interesting - some people would opt for bubble, some for German, others Alsatian, or white Burgundy. Should to a poll - 'If you had $100 to spend on a bottle of white wine, what would it be?"

You guys are a bad influence. My buying the last couple of weeks has been almost all white - German Riesling, Alsatian Muskat and domestic (i.e. Canadian) Pinot Gris and Chard.

Help, Jenise, they are turning me toward the Dark Side!

At least I haven't bought any California Chards (not in years, IIRC).

That's a good price. $100 is not the norm, but I've seen it:

And not far off:

I reserve that kind of money for Burgundy and Barolo, but I suppose if it were white the most likely scenario is aged Loire chenin.

I regularly look at the back label if I'm unfamiliar with a wine. If the name Terry Thiese is there and it's not too expensive, and usually it is not, I'll go for it.
