May has been very warm here in Norway, so there was time to try so newly released roses and I have thrown in a couple of other wines for the warm weather.
Il Mimo 2005, Cantalupo Novaresi, Piemonte
Light red colour. Fresh and flowery nose with hints of currant. Fullbodied for a rose with fine acids and redwine-like tannins in the back. Concentrated and slightly fatness in the fruit which shows flowery with red berries and some tar and anise in the finish. More obvious nebbiolo-character than previous vintages. A fine Il mimo that tells that the wine is moving towards a very light red wine more than rose. Lacking perhaps then some of the freshness of earlier vintages.
Schilchersekt brut, Langmann vulgo Lex
The backlabel says that this is a vintage-sekt, but vintage is not stated.
Light pink colour. Medium to large bubbles. Fresh nose of nettles, currant, red fruits. Medium bodied and quite fine mousse in the mouth. Elegant and typical schilcher with refreshing fruit and very high acidity. The quite simple fruit shows nettle and red fruits. The long finish has some lemon. Typical, elegant and very fine summer drink.
Schilcher Klassik 2005, Langmann vulgo Lex
Orange/light pink colour. Nose shows red fruits; currant, nettles, flowers and light minerals. Acidic wine in the mouth with fine fruit that shows a little more fatness than the norm. Currant and nettle most apparent in the fruit. The acid gives it a long and citrusy finish. Good length. Fine schilcher and very good for the price.
Schilcher Classic 2005, Eduard Oswald
Clean light pink colour. Fine lemony nose with hints of nettle, currant and light minerals. Very acidic and slim schilcher in the mouth. Typical style. Clean and highly structured. Fine fruit; Quite lemony with some nettle and light minerals. Foodfriendly summer-wine with a long and refreshing taste. Very fine schilcher and better than Langmann's still Schilcher.
Vinho Verde Sub-regiao de Moncao tinto 2004, Adega de Moncao
Moncao is the northern part of the Vinho Verde-region. Adega de Moncao makes some great white Vinho Verde from Alvarinho. This red is made from brancelho, pedral and negrao. It has a dark red colour. A bit shy nose, some leafy notes, ink and dark berries. Acidic and very light red wine in the mouth and with some spritz, as the wine is slightly gasified. Quite simple fruit. Acidic mouthfeel. The fruit-notes are quite dark and with ink and some greenness. Which makes it peculiar with the lightness of the wine. Light tannins in the back. Very special style that may not appeal to everyone.
Moscato d'Asti 2005, Paolo Saracco
Straw colour. Medium to large bubbles. Exotic and fruity nose with muscaty-spice and some citrus. Sweet fruit in the mouth. Simple, refreshing style. Medium concentration. Acidic fine structure in the back with lemony notes. Good length. Finer acidity than previous years makes this a very refreshing and fine Moscato d'Asti.
