Robin, I don't know if it is me or if it is memorex, but I really do not like this guy's screaming. I understand that every one has to have a gimmick, but screaming self promotion? His CndP (episode #328) which is where your link took me had no wine as far as I could find, just screaming. I must have done something wrong?

Bob, first, the bad link is my fault. I accidentally left in an old link to a short program from last Friday in which Gary did in fact reminisce about this and that, without wine notes. Here is the link I should have used. My fault:

Chateauneuf Du Pape Tasting - Episode #330

That said, Gary's style is very unusual, idiosyncratic, even wacky. He's most assuredly not Parker, and he's at the other pole from the Speck. He is also wildly popular, and he's doing an amazing job of bringing wine to a younger demographic segment that has been eluding the wine industry for years. Personally, I think he's exuberant and funny, but I wouldn't call it "screaming."

I think a lot of Gary, and he thinks a lot of us. He's also a major sponsor and in that way, he helps pay the bills that keep this site up and running and make it possible for me to afford to run a high-traffic forum. We probably owe him a scream or two for that. :)

I did not know till just now (did a google) that he was born in Russia. Robin, does he operate a winestore where he shoots his stuff?

I wish I had high speed, just too much buffering with my computer set up here.

Gary is loud, but that is just his energy level. Today's CdP episode was toned down. I love Gary, and I don't think I fit in the "younger demographic" at 48. His palate and his tastes are pretty much in tune with the message we send out here at WLDG.

Is he over the top on occassion? Oh yes, but I love his enthuisiasm. We need more enthusiasm in the wine world and his is tapered with good sense. I say he is owed all the shouts he wants.

That said, he is not for everyone. I think he would agree there. He is doing great things for the wine world though. (Too bad he's a Jets fan.)
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

Well, I have to agree that is is not the Speck, nor is he Parker, and outside of his (I suppose) normal delivery, he seems to not take himself as serious as those you mentioned and some I could mention that you didn't. Maybe I should give him more of a chance. OK, I will now link to the front page.

Bob, Gary is the Director of Operations, I believe, at Wine Library, which is a very large wine shop and E-tailer in New Jersey.

Here's the wine store link:
Wine Library

They also advertise in The 30 Second Wine Advisor editions every Wednesday.

There's a stock guy on CNBC or MSNBC or something like that with the exact same schtick that predates Gary. It's all frantic yelling and a pace that would tire a cheetah.

Personally I can't stand it.
