WTN: Marques de Riscal Rueda 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Sep 05, 2007 9:42 pm

A blend of Verdelho (85 per cent) and Viura.

Light golden-yellow, with greenish tinges.

Spicy and lemony on the nose.

Creamy, lemon, grapefruit and some pear, moderate acidity, peppery, some pine resin. Very clean and refreshing.

Fairly long and tangy finish, with lemons and quite peppery.

Screwcap closure.

A very enjoyable wine at a very enjoyable price. Purchased at $11.45 (Canadian).

Did you bring a bottle of this to NiCool? I remember some white spanish wine you brought from a well-known producer that was excellent and a good qpr. This sounds familiar. Good note as always.

No it wasn't James. The wine I brought to Niagara was a Placet 2005 Rioja, from Bodegas Palacios Remondo. You are correct that it is a good QPR, at $23.95 (Canadian).

Thanks Bruce. I am just not up on Spanish whites outside of Albarino.

Bruce, I posted notes previously on a Rioja from this producer, and I'm pleased to see that they've got more out there that I might like. Looking forward to trying the white...
