Has anyone ever seen this wine in the U.S.???

by Danny Dasent » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:04 pm

Good day all,

I am new to this forum and very excited to have just joined!! You folks sure know your stuff!!!

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this wine here in the U.S. It's called:
Santa Cecilia
Montepulciano D'Abruzzo.........

I used to have this a lot in the Dominican Republic where it was imported directly from Italy. I did a google for it today and came up with the website below:

http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... ifauri.it/

Any help would be appreciated......
Thanks
DD

Danny, welcome to the Forum! You will find everyone here (almost! ;) ) very friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to help.

I can't say I've seen your wine anywhere, but I've never looked for it either....

If it's available, quite likely someone on the Forum will know about it.

You may have better luck seeing if anyone stocks the wines from the winery (Tenuta i fauri), or by emailing the winery (via the contact page on their website) to see if they have a US importer.

I tried tenuta i fauri in winesearcher and came up with just one shop in Sorrento selling another Montepulciano D'Abruzzo from Tenuta i Fauri

http://www.italianwineselection.com/det ... taglio=163

interesting marked as Cerasuolo which Hugh Johnsons handy little book tells me is the rose.

This might be an interesting hunt!

Hello all,
Yes this has been an interesting hunt to say the least. I was able to track down the winery and actually communicate with someone there. I am still waiting for them to tell me if they export to the U.S. at all, because I told them i live in Texas, they wrote me back saying they do not export to Texas......so I am not sure if it comes to the U.S. I even took a shot at looking at some of the top U.S. Italian restuarants' wine lists.......no luck, the closest is the Planeta Santa Cecilia and this is not the same wine......not finding it on the internet here in the U.S. leads me to believe that I may be wasting all our time......

Well, what can I say? The hunt goes on, I shall not be deterred!

A more lateral approach... Could you buy from the Dominican Republic and get them to ship to you in Texas?

Hi Ian,

There is only one distributor in the Dominican Republic and when I was living there, trying to buy a case there was like looking for the tooth fairy. I eventually got around to it and finally bought two cases ( the entire stock at the time.)

I shudder to think what the transaction of them shipping to me here in Texas would be like...............It will definitely be easier for me to import from Italy directly. I made contact with the winery, just waiting on a response from them now.....

An easier approach would be to try other Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines from other producers. With luck you will find one you like as well or better that is more accessible in Texas.
