Stellenbosch.
Ruby red color in the glass.
A very odd nose of smoked meat, antiseptic-band aids, and heavy hickory smoke.
Tangy but smooth, cherry and cranberry, loads of hickory smoke, earthy, toasted-charred, red licorice, very spicy, beets and that odd antiseptic-band aid flavour.
A rich and long finish, smoky and a little sweet.
A distinctive (that's an understatement) wine that I won't soon forget. It is the sort of wine, I think, that people will either love or hate. I liked it for its strangeness. I wouldn't want to drink it every night, but it sure wasn't the same old-same old.
