I was wandering with my son today. Hoke had suggested this place so we went in on a lark. The antipasto was good. Even the sliced provolone had decent flavor, although the peperoncini could have used a few dozen more Scoville units. We ordered a pizza margherita which was soggy anywhere there was a chunk of tomato and hence was quite a disappointment. I also have a preference for a thicker crust. I will, however, try it again some time because the place is otherwise quite chouette. I'll just stay away from pizzas with nasty, wet produce on them.

Personally, I stay away from pizza west of the Allgheny Mtns and south of the Mason Dixon line. Living in Maryland I break the rule all the time. I am continually disappointed. I just got back from a weekend in Philadelphia where I got a real pizza fix on Friday night.

I don't know if the Kosmakos family is still making pizza in the Baltimore area, but if they are, run-don't-walk. It's very idiosyncratic, but the magnificence of their greasy, salty pies is one of the very few things Robert Parker and I ever agreed on. Their outlet in my former area (Randallstown) was perfectly captured by the old SNL "Cheezboigie" routine; a dozen Greeks with varying language skills behind the counter at all times, in furious motion, and screaming at one another in Greek.

Oh, man, that was pizza that broke all my rules but I still crave it.

I was going to make a wisecrack, but I decided to be a gentleman instead. By the way, your avatar's eyes keep following me around the room.

Yeah, I know. I've seen the unedited full length photo where you can see the restraining order with your name on it in her hand.

We had a place in Bowie that broke all the rules too. I will agree that B'more has some spots that make you think you are in Philly, Boston, or New York. Little Italy is tops. Thanks for the tip.

Hey, you made it!

Sorry, they don't serve lark at the Red Grape. Chicken, maybe.

Sorry, too, the Margherita wasn't quite up to your standards. We'll have to try again to see if we can find a sweet spot for you. Roxi's fave is usually the Mediterranean; I like the sausage and mushroom (although they use sweet Italian instead of spicy sausage, so I have to dash with the pepper flakes).
