Alkoomi from Western Oz: Has RMP ever rated it?

by Robin Garr » Wed Oct 17, 2007 10:07 am

As I write up Alkoomi 2004 Frankland River (Western Australia) Shiraz Viognier for today's Wine Advisor (and Wine Focus) and praise its unusual balance, elegance and subtle character, I can't resist wondering whether The Bob has ever rated this or other Alkoomi wines. It's hard for me to imagine him going above 89, but I'd be very interested to know whether this assumption is fair. If anyone with access to RMP Points on paper or online could check this out for me, I'll be in your debt.

I'll give it a look when I get home, Robin, but I thought that'd I share this semi-amusing anecdote. I did a double-take when reading your question because I'd misread the subject. Perhaps displaying my own biases, I read it as "Has RMP overrated it?" which, you might agree, is a not-unheard of scenario Down Under

Your biases are my biases, Mark, which is why I'm eager to get some data. ;)

I did google and found some inferences leading me to believe that Alkoomi tends to fall in the 80-89 range as anticipated, but I'd still like primary data if I can get it. Er, them. Whatever.

Speck ratings wouldn't hurt my feelings either ...

Anyone? I'll just have to fudge it and mail out the Wine Advisor without getting deeply into the points issue ... last call, though, if anyone can look up a number for me!
