WTN: Royal Tokaji Furmint 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Oct 17, 2007 8:42 pm

The Royal Tokaji Wine Co.

My very first experience with the Furmint grape.

Medium-dark yellow color.

Nothing much on the nose.

Quite austere and steely, intense and bitter grapefruit and lemon rind, very tart and dry, peppery and spicy.

A long lemon rind finish.

Believe it or not, this wine sort of grew on me, particularly as it warmed up on the table. I think I like it, despite my description.

Matched fairly well with home made turkey soup.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

Furmint is the 5th greatest white wine grape on this planet earth. After of course Riesling, Gruener Veltliner, Chenin Blanc, and Chardonnay grown in Puligny-Montrachet.
