That is a good article. I was more aware of the "ratings problem" with blockbuster shiraz etc. but it is interesting that it carries over to rating Sauvignon Blanc as well.

Her conclusions make sense, but I'm not sure she realizes that she is revealing more about her own shortcomings as a wine judge than anything else. I judge a fair amount of wine, mostly in overseas tastings, and I think competent European judges in particular are well aware of the "blockbuster effect," make every effort to avoid it, and are guided in that effort with scoring systems that tend to damp out extremes.

Indeed,glad Jacques is posting here. One of the true gentlemen of the NY wine world. And the drawing is a better likeness of him than most of us using photos!

I think she is clear in article this is not a new idea to her, she just chose this as an example to base an article on.

I missed that, but went back and found the sentence.

This is a subject about wine that, to me, is soo obvious, but seems still to be up for discussion in geek circles.
