WTN: Pinot Grigio Raccolta Tardiva 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Oct 28, 2007 11:59 am

DOC Oltrepo Pavese.

From Ca' Di Frara.

I like Pinot Grigio so was quite interested to see what a late harvest version would be like.

Light yellow color in the glass.

Rich pear and quite peppery on the nose.

Quite thick and rich in the mouth, intense pear fruit, bitter grapefruit rind, very tangy, peppery, honeyed. With time, the grapefruit rind bitterness increased in intensity and became quite dominating and overwhelming.

A drying, bitter finish.

Rather disappointing.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian).

Bruce,
Have you not tried a Pinot Gris Vendange Tardive from Alsace? It really has no equal among Late-Harvest PG. Interesting though that you found an Italian version.

Nope, haven't yet checked one of those off my list. Something to look forward to, from what you tell me.
