WTN: La Tunella, Colli Orientali del Friuli.

This evening I was fortunate to sample some whites and reds from this winery situated in Friuli. I was more interested in the whites so here are some brief notes. Costs N/A.

`05 La Tunella Campo Marzio, Colli Orientali del Friuli.

Blend of Ribolla Gialla, P Grigio and Tocai Fruilano. Light straw colour, nose had floral tones, pear, apple and brief hint of caramel? Nectarine on the palate, with apple and peach. Hint of residual sugar, very nice, will be on lookout for this one!

Verduzzo La Tunella (vintage not known).

Delicious dessert style wine made from dryed raisined grapes, the Verduzzo variety. 13%alc, nose of vanilla and honey. On the palate, I found orange, almonds and very appealing too. Do not think this will be cheap! Some splits of other wines like this go for $40 Cdn[/i]

Friuli is an empty space in my cellar, as is Alto Adige.

I must make an effort to learn its wines. There is another major Italian tasting coming up at the beginning of December; hopefully there will be some good growers from there presenting their wares.
