After several hectic weeks of tastings, it was nice to have a quiet week on the wine side of things. It is better IMO to share a bottle over an unhurried meal than have a brief sip at a tasting.
This week I have shared:
With a Carelian Stew (slowly braised pork and beef):
Drouhin Moulin-à-Vent 2005
Just lovely: a typical and un-bubbelgummy expression of Gamay, vibrant and refreshing yet red-fruity also. Lovely, and for my tastes (I don't mind that it shows a bit of tannin) just lovely now. I have drunk many, many bottles of this. (This is one of only two decent Bojos available here, but having tasted others that aren't available here, I still find Drouhin's a very competent example).
I splurged again on a filet of reindeer and made a sauce of red wine, shallots and chantrelles:
Château Pique-Sègue Montravel Terre de Pique-Segue "Anima Vitis" 2002
Dark. A very oaky nose with some savoury dark fruit noticable underneath. Very oaky palate, but with juicy dark fruits also. Seems much like a modern style Bordeaux - not bad at all if you like that, but I find it quite boring. I preferred the remains of last night's Drouhin Bojo.
