This was a very lovable wine for my tastes, though some at the table found it a bit extreme in its funky, loamy aromas. But as is well known, I can stand a hefty dose of funk in my glass. The palate seemed "cleaner" than the nose and was very bright and refreshingly acidic. I guess it must have a touch of RS in it? Nice stuff!
It has been almost two years since I last tried a bottle the white '98 Musar, so it was time to taste it again. And it is so great, that I really must find even more!
- 1998 Chateau Musar Blanc - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley (11/11/2007)
Decanted 10 hours. Deep, almost orange colour. The nose is very red toned and spicy in its fruit, with a nice vegetal note to it (almost Pinot Noir-like in fact). It also smells of oranges and earth. Though only 12,5%abv, the palate is very full bodied, powerful, dense, tannic and spicy, with a nice touch of bitterness and acid on the finish. Very long. Excellent, but still very primary. Needs much more age.
