WTN: 2006 Gysler Weinheimer Riesling Kabinett

2006 Gysler Weinheimer Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Rheinhessen (11/12/2007)
Screwcap alert!

Easily the best value of all the 2006 Rieslings I purchased, the Gysler is doing exactly what I was hoping it would do - showing plenty of off-dry fruitiness, good acidity and light body for maximum refreshment value. For $10.99 this is really fine QPR. I'm drinking up almost all of mine within the next year or so for the delicious fruit, though I might leave one bottle to age a little just for fun.

Thanks, will look for it when next in NY.

BTW, I LOVE screw caps, lost too much wine over the years to bad corks. In a perfect world, producers would raise the fill from 750 to 800 ml to compensate for the extra air that will make the contents age faster :D

Thanks for the note, Dave, this sounds like my kind of basic riesling. Btw, the only Gysler product I've had is their sparkling wine. I think it's a blend of white grapes--and I love it.

Jenise,

If you are referring to the 'Bundle of Scheu' then it's just Scheurebe, and it was (all mine is gone) one of the best sparkling wine values I ever drank.

That's the one. What's the story behind the term "bundle of scheu", do you know? Isn't it a play on "bundle of joy", wherein 'shoy' means something else in German?

Bundle of Scheu: It's a sparkling wine made from Scheurebe (hence Scheu) the title of which commemorates the birth of Gysler's son. Bundle of joy indeed. (Remember the stork on the label?)
