WTN: Velha Porca de Murca Reserva Tinto 2003

DOC Douro.
Real Companhia Velha.

A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Tinta Roriz .

Dark purple in the glass.

A rich nose of chocolate, earth and tangy-spicy hickory smoke.

Thick and rich in the mouth, pencil lead, chocolate, fleshy plum and black cherries, dry, tangy BBQ sauce, with a bit of heat toward the end. Overall, the wine exhibited a rather lean structure, with a bit of an edge.

Drying finish.

Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).

I had bought the red after having greatly enjoyed the Porca de Murca Branco, but I didn't care for this as much.
