WTN: 2001 Clos Pepe Estate Chardonnay Barrel Fermented

I really have to start working my way through this stuff.

This wine was from when Wes made two cuvees of Chard from the property, the Homage to Chablis, which saw no wood, and this, the Barrel Fermented, which I always found a bit more interesting.

The wine is now a deep golden color. It's held up nicely. The nose gives up aromas of ripe pear and fig.
In the mouth, the wine is weighty. The pear follows through - it is the dominant flavor for me. I also get a touch of pineapple. I am not picking up as much minerality from the wine as I did when it was younger, but there is sufficient acidity to keep it interesting in the glass.
There's no heat and the wine shows no signs of coming apart, though I don't know how much better it will get. I enjoyed this bottle quite a bit.
This was my last 01 BF - I still have a couple of HtCs which I will open and report on in short order.
