WTN: Gunderloch "Jean Baptiste" Riesling Kabinett 2005

Rheinhessen.

Light yellow with some green tinges.

Initially there was strong petrol on the nose, but that soon faded leaving some very light spicy notes.

Petrol, lemon-lime, zingy, honeyed, quite intense, fairly round, but with a rather unpleasant overripe fruit-chemical taste that came and went throughout the bottle.

While I have enjoyed many vintages of the Jean Baptiste going back to the early 1990s, I found this one reminded me very much of Sprite soda pop and it became annoyingly sweet and cloying after a few glasses.

Off-putting chemical taste on the finish.

Screwcap closure.

Hi Bruce, does not sound right to me. I opened my last `05 over Christmas and found it very enjoyable. Not much transition since the last bottle, no notes.

Thanks for the calibration Bob. I guess this was an off bottle. Less likely with screwcaps but, obviously, still possible.
