WTN: Woodbridge Sauvignon Blanc 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Dec 29, 2007 7:34 pm

California.

I had some misgivings about this, based on the history of this label but, surprisingly, the wine wasn't half bad.

Light yellow in the glass.

Very light nose, with citrus fruit and spices.

Lemon, lime, melon and a bit of grapefruit, peppery, tangy, moderate acidity, crisp, light bodied, rather lean but refreshing. The wine did pick up a bit more intensity and flavour as it warmed.

Purchased from a (rather limited) restaurant wine list for $28 (Canadian).

Bruce, it has always been my experience that the SB is the best choice from this genre of the lesser Mondavi wines. I think I remember though that the Woodbridge line (amongst others) are no longer made by Mondavi, but by a giant conglomerate, so who knows what goes into the bottle, Oh well, maybe it isn't a conglomerate at all, maybe it is just a professional (take your choice) football , soccer, or basketball player. Or heck could it be Kendall-Jackson? :-)
