WTN: d'Arenberg The Stump Jump Red 2006

McLaren Vale.
Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre.

A lovely nose, sweet, raspberry and strawberry fruit, spicy, red licorice, cinnamon.

Rich, quite tangy, peppery, raspberry, red licorice, high acidity, a little effervecent, rather rough-hot toward the end.

While this was a fair wine, I was quite put off by the effervecence it showed (kind of reminded me a bit of bad homemade wine) and the roughness-alcohol heat toward the end. I hope this was an off bottle and not a symptom of the vintage. I have purchased The Stump Jump (both red and white) for a number of years now and have always found them to be dependable and enjoyable.

Bruce, I think it was a bad bottle. We've had a couple of the '06 reds, and they were fine.

Bruce, just FYI, I had a bottle last month that very closely mirrored yours. I see that Carl Eppig has had better luck, but your bad bottle wasn't unique.
