WTN: Weingut Dr. Loosen Riesling Kabinett 2002

Ürziger Würzgarten, MSR.

Light yellow color in the glass.

Petrol on the nose.

Quite rich, fat and weighty in the mouth, fleshy, lemon, green apple, with suggestions of orange and peach, spicy, intensely rich flavours, honeyed, showing some notes of overripe fruit as the wine warmed, pretty much lacking in acidity, except for some toward the end and on the finish.

A fairly long, mouthwatering, crisp finish.

Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian).

While my wife and I enjoyed the wine, I felt that it would have been much improved with some acidity to support the rather rich flavours and weighty structure. As it was, the wine came off as showy, but rather flat. Having said all this, it did match well with a spicy stir fry.

My typical complaint about Loosen. Even in a good acid year his wines seem flat/flabby.
