German Wine Producers Question

by Jim Grow » Sun Jan 06, 2008 10:10 pm

Back in the 1980's and early 90's I bought some nice German wine from the following producers but do not see their wines in Ohio anymore. Are any of them still producing (I assume so) but just not distributing into Ohio?

Jakob Pfleger
J.B. Becker
Deinhard
Schloss Eltz
Friedrich Bauman
Weingut Hirschhof
Landgraflich Hessisches

Thanks in advance for any info. Jim Grow

well you may be able to get some information if you come to ann arbor on march 2. there will be a tasting with 15 german wine producers and their importer. paul heyden will be representing his own wines plus those of friedrich baumann - i'm thinking that is the producer you mention. lots of famous vineyard owners will be there as well. check it out at 'villagecorner.com'

Schloss Eltz is no more. There's a Dr. Deinhard in the Theise portfolio now. They have separated from the big "negotiant" Deinhard, and are making some really nice wines from the Pfalz.

Hi Jim,
Jacob Pfleger is one of Germany's finest red wine producers (and makes good Burgundian whites too.) Which bottle do you have?
J.B. Becker has some 100 year old Pinot Noir vines in Wallufer Walkenberg and good riesling. The best producer in Walluf.
Hirschhof I haven't tried, but are still cranking out wines in the Rheinhessen -I've heard they make decent Sauvignon Blanc.
