WTN: Short Notes from Vinexpo Burgundy Seminar

by Jay Labrador » Mon May 29, 2006 9:53 am

Unfortunately parts of this tasting were conducted in French and the lady translating into English didn't have the ability to translate some of the technical terms. There was also a sommelier who spoke about matching the wines with Chinese food which was great for the Chinese in the audience but I think he lost some of us by speaking about some of the more unfamiliar regional foods. Only 5 wines were tasted so this tasting pales in comparison to the German seminars we attended previously.

Joseph Drouhin Chablis 2004 - Light, simple, lemony aperitif.

Maison Champy Pouilly Fuisse 2004 - Woody. Lacks flavor on the front palate. Apples mostly. Finishes long enough.

Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru "Perrieres" 2000 - Best white of the tasting by far. Nice nose. Gentle butter notes. Full, dry, very long finish. Classy wine.

Joseph Drouhin Rully 2004 - Some mint. Very dry. Good fruit. Some tea-like character. Good, long finish. Needs more time. Good stuff.

Maison Bertagna Vougeot 1er Cru Clos de la Perriere Monopole 2002 - Some sweetness on the front palate. Closed on the nose. Complex. Still tannic. Long finish. Needs time. Should be very good with a few more years.
